Soaring Education Statistics

Nationwide since 1950, the number of public school administrative and non-teaching positions has soared 702% while the student population increased just 96%. Over that same period, teachers’ numbers also increased—252%.

Notably, that hiring trend has been just as prominent over the past two decades. From 1992 to 2009, students’ numbers increased 17% whereas administrators and other non-teaching staff rose 46%. And during that time, some states actually lost students yet kept hiring more non-teachers. Of course, those hiring patterns might be warranted if students’ academic gains kept pace. Academic outcomes, however, have not experienced similar growth.

Such irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars is indefensible. Had non-teaching personnel increased at the same rate as students nationwide, American public schools would have an additional $24.3 billion annually—funds that could be used to give quality teachers raises, scholarships to students in need, relief to taxpayers, or some other worthy purpose.

The Internal Revenue Service has admitted filming a pair of staff-made videos that parody 1960s television shows. In its defense, the agency says the video based on Gilligan’s Island is used to train managers (somehow that doesn’t sound as reassuring as it should), but admits that its decision to make a Star Trek parody, which was shown for entertainment at a 2010 conference, was as ill-advised as a taxpayer who calls the IRS help line. The six-minute epic, with a budget of around $40,000, has impressively realistic sets and costumes but is marred by acting that makes William Shatner look Oscar-worthy. In a just world, the IRS would face stiff fines and a possible jail sentence for the disallowed business expense, but instead it will probably receive its regular yearly budget increase.

Though the FAA says it is strapped for cash, the air traffic control agency managed to find the dollars to update its interactive “command center” tool on its website so passengers can check if their airports are behind schedule due to what it calls sequester-related “staffing” problems. Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn noticed this rare case of FAA technological entrepreneurship and fired off a letter protesting what he called the agency’s “full blown media rollout” to hype the flight delays.

After Mr. Coburn published his letter on his website, FAA regional employees wrote to blow the whistle on their bosses. As one email put it, “the FAA management has stated in meetings that they need to make the furloughs as hard as possible for the public so that they understand how serious it is.”

Strategies include encouraging union workers to take the same furlough day to increase congestion. “I am disgusted with everything that I see since the sequester took place,” another FAA employee wrote. “Whether in HQ or at the field level it is clear that our management has no intention of managing anything. The only effort that I see is geared towards generating fear and demonstrating failure.”

ObamaCare is so odious that lawmakers and aides are trying to extricate themselves from its shackles. As Politico reported [in April], “Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.”

Could there be a more ringing indictment of the law? Not even its authors and supporters, Democrats all, want to be under its control. And yet they expect the rest of the country to submit to a law they have found lacking.

We could call the congressional Democrats who want to exempt themselves from ObamaCare hypocrites, and while that’s an apt description, they are also realists. They see the law up close and first-hand and know that it has problems.

So where is the outrage from the Media? I don’t remember seeing Jesse or Al asking for her head on a platter? Now she is saying that she meant it as a compliment! Yea sure! Maybe as more of these individuals wake up they would inform the Senators and Congressman to step up and stop this progressive movement! Here’s Alec Baldwin who called his daughter a “rude and thoughtless little pig”, thrown off America Airlines for being rude to the attendants, who said “all paparazzi should be water boarded”, indicated if they were “wearing hoodies he could shoot them and get away with it”, promised he would leave the US if Bush got elected, but sorrowfully he didn’t, and when the National Enquirer reporter  Mike Walker wrote about him negatively he called him a “whore” and a “queen”,  also call barista in Starbucks a “queen” because he thought he had a bad attitude! And now he is being rewarded with a TV show on CNBC (no surprise)!? Can you just imagine if a conservative actor or politician had behaved this way? They would have been attacked ruthlessly by the media and other left wing groups calling for their heads on a platter! But no the so called unbiased media give him a pass! Just like Rae Dawn Chong calling Oprah Winfrey a ni—er on a radio interview but was not called out like Paula Dean? I wonder why?
