Kerry Voices U.S. Support for NRA-opposed U.N. Arms Treaty

Kerry Voices U.S. Support for NRA-opposed U.N. Arms Treaty

There is a treaty before the U.N. that is set up to try and regulate international weapons transfers! The supporters of this treaty really believe it’s needed to prevent the unregulated and illicit flow of weapons into conflict zones and fueling wars and atrocities. This is so funny. This is like putting up signs around schools or anywhere else indicating you’ve just entered a gun free zone! That will keep the bad guys out for sure! Don’t these people know that a $70 billion dollar business will not go away because of some treaty! It probably will drive the sale of these weapons by the same governments who will be signing this treaty! It will be impossible to leave that much money on the table!  The NRA opposes this treaty because they believe it could be used down the road to regulate the sale and transfer of arms in our country. The Obama administration has said; "We will not support any treaty that would be inconsistent with U.S. law and the rights of American citizens under our Constitution, including the Second Amendment."! Certainly this treaty has a long way to go. Ratification by all countries involved, which could take years. Then it would have to be ratified by at least 2 thirds of the senate before it would be recognized by the US. The right to bear arms is a sensitive political issue in the US and will be many years. I hope we can keep the UN out of our business!
